PANJIM: In a highly competitive final, the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, defeated Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, by 28 runs to emerge champions in the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Cricket Men Championship played at the Goa University ground, recently.

The Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first inning, the Government College scored a total of 143 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. The top performers were Rishab Phadte, who scored 35 runs off 24 balls and Paarth Kossambe, who contributed 31 runs from 27 balls.

On the bowling side for DMC College, Vardhan Misquin claimed two wickets for 24 runs, while Rohan Zantye also took two wickets, conceding 28 runs.

In the second innings, chasing the target of 144 runs to win, Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College could only manage a total of 115 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 18.5 overs falling short with 28 runs. Yash Gad was the top scorer with 37 runs off 38 balls, while Aman Dhooper contributed with 20 runs from just 9 balls.

On the bowling side, for the Government College, Snehith Panicker excelled by taking three wickets for 25 runs. Additionally, Tanish Kadekar, Narendra Tari and Nischay Naik claimed two wickets each.

Best player of the championship was awarded to Snehith Panicker from the Government College for being the most valuable player of the tournament by scoring 83 runs at average of 41.50 and strike rate of 162.75 and also taking total 11 wickets at an economy of 4.72 and bowling average of 6.36.

The valedictory ceremony was honoured by chief guest Senior Professor

Ganesha Somayaji from D D Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies and also chairman of Board of Studies of Physical Education.

The event also featured guest of honour Prof Dr Purnakala Samant, principal of Government College along with Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. Together, they presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
