RAIA: Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem, moved past Maina SC, Curtorim, 7-6 via tie-breaker to emerge champions in the Benaulim Villagers Cup football tournament organised by Dando Boys Club, Benaulim, at the St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim, on Sunday.
Guardian Angel SC took the lead through Milton Fernandes, which was later cancelled by Milagres Fernandes for Maina SC.
At the end of regulation time, both teams settled for 1-1 draw. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Rayan Menezes, Preston Castanha, Cyril Dias, Godwin Costa, Ivo Costa and Fedrich Fernandes scored for Guardian Angel SC, while Caitano Viegas, Milagres Fernandes, Johnson Bohit and Maldino Fernandes shoot at the target for Maina SC.
Social worker and sports lover Savio Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of former Zilla Panchayat member Nelly Rodrigues, Seraulim Sarpanch Sima Shanke, Goa Football Association Vice-President Anthony Pango, GFA Executive Members Anthony Leo Fernandes and Andrew Ferrao, other dignitaries and club officials.
The winners received Rs 50,000 plus trophy, while Maina SC had to be content with Rs 40,000 plus trophy.
