Gujarat Titans speedster Kagiso Rabada has returned to the IPL 2025 after serving a provisional suspension following a positive test for a recreational drug. Rabada had featured in just two matches at the start of the season, claiming one wicket in each, before abruptly exiting the tournament in early April, initially citing "personal reasons."
It was later revealed that Rabada’s absence was due to an adverse analytical finding, leading to a provisional suspension under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.
In a public statement, Rabada expressed deep regret and apologised to fans, acknowledging that he does not take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. He also thanked his support system, including his agent, Cricket South Africa, the Gujarat Titans, and the South African Cricketers' Association, affirming his commitment to return stronger and continue playing the game he loves.
"As has been reported, I recently returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons,"
"This was due to my returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug.
I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.
I am serving a provisional suspension, and I am looking forward to returning to the game I love playing.
I couldn't have gone through this alone. I'd like to thank my agent, CSA, and Gujarat Titans for their support. I'd also like to thank SACA and my legal team for their guidance and counsel. Most importantly, I'd like to thank my friends and family for their understanding and love.
Moving forward, this moment will not define me. I will keep doing what I have always done — continuously working hard and playing with passion and devotion to my craft." Kagiso Rabada said in his statement.
Now back with the Gujarat Titans squad, Rabada is expected to be available for their upcoming fixtures—starting with a crucial clash against the Mumbai Indians on May 6, 2025. His return is seen as a major boost for the Titans, who have been managing their bowling lineup in his absence with players like Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, and Gerald Coetzee.
