MARGAO: The Konkan Railway flyover at Margao has turned dangerous due to the presence of several potholes along the stretch, following heavy downpour.
The poor road condition is causing traffic jams with commuters raising safety concerns.
A few years ago, the repair work was undertaken, but the flyover’s condition has deteriorated, with commuters raising their doubts about the quality of material used in carrying out the works.
It’s pertinent to note that a few years ago, the repair work on the flyover was carried out by spending lakhs of rupees. This work included the removal of the top layer of the concrete surface and its replacement with asphalt, as well as the installation of new rubber expansion joints.
Locals have expressed frustration over the lack of timely maintenance and the impact on their daily life.
Lamenting the sub-standard repair work, Peter Fernandes, a commuter, emphasised that it is high time the government initiated an inquiry against the contractor or agency responsible for the previous repairs.
Stating that huge potholes now pose serious risk to motorists , he said, “Riders must take extra precautions while navigating the road, as multiple potholes make it increasingly dangerous.”
Rajendra Borkar, a parent, said, “I use this flyover regularly to drop and pick my kids from school in Margao, and the potholes make it a tough journey.”
He emphasised that conditions have deteriorated with each passing day, raising alarms about the growing risks.
Highlighting lack of proactive measures, Borkar said that the authorities take action only when the public voice their concerns.
