CURCHOREM: Immaculate Conception High School, Avedem-Paroda, scripted a remarkable double victory, emerging champions in the U-17 Girls and U-15 Boys categories of the Subroto Mukherjee football tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Campal-Panjim, at the Figueiredo ground, Curchorem, recently.
In the U-17 girls final, Immaculate Conception High School edged past Pope John XXIII High School, Quepem, with a narrow 1-0 win. After a goalless first half, striker Senika Dias netted the all-important goal in the second half. Pope John XXIII fought hard for an equaliser but failed to break through the disciplined defence of the Immaculate Conception High School.
In the U-15 boys final, Immaculate Conception High School dominated Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem, with a convincing 3-0 win. Isaiah Cardozo opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful right-footer off a well-timed long pass. Despite several attempts, Guardian Angel’s High School strikers missed key chances to level the score.
The Immaculate Conception High School doubled their lead through Bloon Fernandes, who unleashed a thunderous shot past the goalkeeper. The Immaculate Conception High School defence stood strong against repeated attacks, denying Guardian Angel High School any chance to recover. The match was sealed in the second half when Jayden Fernandes struck a stunning goal to make it 3-0.
