The 2025 Asia Cup is set to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with eight teams competing in two groups. The tournament promises thrilling encounters, including a possible India-Pakistan group match.
India’s T20 squad was officially revealed on August 19 in Mumbai, with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav present. Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain, while Jasprit Bumrah returns to the team. Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were left out of the final squad.

The matches will be held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, making UAE the center stage for Asia’s premier T20 tournament.
“With regards to Shreyas, I mean, you need to tell him who he can replace. No fault of his, nor is it ours. It’s just that we have to pick 15 at the moment. He’ll have to wait for his chance,” Ajit Agarkar said at the press conference.
Apart from Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma, all other batters in the squad featured in India’s last T20I series against England earlier this year. The selection underscores the selectors’ focus on continuity, retaining players who performed consistently.
Despite underwhelming performances in IPL 2025, both Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh have been included as middle-order options. Tilak Varma, with his consistent form, appears to have secured the No. 3 spot, while Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel provide additional flexibility in the middle order.
