The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed all ten IPL franchises to bring their squads and support staff together by Tuesday as preparations begin to resume IPL 2025. This follows a week-long suspension triggered by heightened India-Pakistan tensions. The suspension came after the Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was called off due to security concerns, airstrikes, and power outages in the surrounding areas. During the pause, most players and staff returned to their respective homes or countries. However, with the situation stabilizing after a ceasefire, the BCCI is now working swiftly to restart the tournament.
At the time of the suspension, 58 matches had been played, leaving 12 league games and four playoff matches—including the fina, yet to be completed. The BCCI aims to wrap up the tournament before May 25, as the India ‘A’ squad is scheduled to depart for a tour of England shortly after. The final decision on rescheduled dates and venues will be made after discussions with the government and security agencies, considering the ongoing security concerns. While some overseas coaches, such as Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin, remained in India, others returned to their home countries. Franchises are now working to bring all players and staff back in time. The resumption of IPL 2025 is seen as a symbol of resilience and confidence, with the BCCI reaffirming that while cricket remains a national passion, the security and integrity of the country are always the top priority.
