With just a few hours to go before the much-anticipated and highly awaited IPL 2025 final, all eyes are on Ahmedabad — and the skies above it. If the weather holds steady, the match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is expected to proceed as planned. However, that outcome is far from guaranteed.
According to the weather department, there is a 50% chance of rain around the scheduled start time of the match. AccuWeather forecasts showers in Ahmedabad post-5 PM on June 3, raising the possibility of a delayed start — or worse, a washout.
Recent Rain Delays Add to Concerns
Recently, Qualifier 2 between Punjab and Mumbai faced a two-hour delay due to rain. Given these recent disruptions, concerns are growing that the IPL 2025 final could suffer a similar fate.
The IPL Governing Council has accounted for potential weather delays by allowing an additional two hours to complete each playoff match. If the weather fails to improve on June 3, the reserve day — June 4 — will be activated to ensure a result.
This isn't the first time weather has disrupted an IPL final. In 2023, heavy rain in Ahmedabad forced the final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings to be postponed to the reserve day. Even then, persistent showers reduced the match to 15 overs per side, and CSK ultimately lifted the trophy via the DLS method.
