MS Dhoni and his CSK side are seeing only losses in the ongoing IPL, and now they are almost out of contention, currently sitting at the bottom of the table with elimination looking almost confirmed.
Recently, they lost a crucial game against Hyderabad by 5 wickets , and that too at Chepauk. Interestingly, Chepauk, which used to be a fortress for CSK, is currently offering no advantage, as the team has suffered several defeats at this iconic ground right now.
Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni admitted after his team's five-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 that CSK failed to capitalise on better batting conditions. Dhoni acknowledged that CSK fell 15 to 20 runs short against SRH on their home ground in Chennai. Harshal Patel, who took four wickets, was named Player of the Match.
Dhoni said, "I think we kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Another thing is that the wicket was a little better in the first innings, and 155 was not a good enough score. The ball wasn't turning much, and there was nothing unusual."
"Yes, there was a little help in the second innings. Our spinners are of good quality and were bowling in the right areas, but we ended up 15-20 runs short." Dhoni also praised Dewald Brevis for his fine innings, saying, "I think he batted very well, and that's something we needed in the middle order. When the spinners come on, you either score runs by using your batting skills or by picking the right areas, but this is an area we want to improve because the middle overs are crucial."
Dhoni also said, "In a tournament like this, if there are one or two areas where you need to improve, that's fine, but when most players are not performing well, you need to make changes. You can't just keep going. We are not putting up enough runs on the board. I’m not saying you always have to score 180–200, but you need to assess the conditions and then try to put up a good score."
