RAIA: Sai Avatar, Anjuna, stormed into the semi-finals of 46th Cana Benaulim Soccer Championship with an emphatic 2-0 win over Parish Youth Nuvem at the Benaulim panchayat ground, on Sunday.
Both teams began on the front foot, displaying crisp passing and attacking flair. Mohammed Adur and Kreepal Dhargalkar posed a constant threat to the PY Nuvem defence. The first half ended in a goalless draw. PY Nuvem nearly broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, but Sai Avatar’s goalkeeper Soma Korgaokar came up with a brilliant diving save to deny Joywin Costa.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 38th minute when Kreepal Dhargalkar struck with precision to give Sai Avatar the lead.
He doubled the tally in the 44th minute with a thunderous finish and complete his brace. Joywin continued to fight for PY Nuvem, but the Sai Avatar custodian was unbeatable. Kreepal thrilled the crowd with his match-winning performance.
