PANJIM: Loyola, Margao, and Don Bosco, Fatorda, emerged champions in the U-12 Boys and Girls categories respectively in the 5-a-side Fr Benedict Furtado Basketball Tournament organised at the Don Bosco Oratory, here, recently.

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, and Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, finished boys and girls runners-up respectively. In the U-12 boys category, highest scorer and best player was Adriel Rosario, Loyola; and the most disciplined player was Tanay Rane, Don Bosco. In the U-12 girls, highest scorer and best player was Eva Mascarenhas, Don Bosco, Fatorda; and the most disciplined player was Elaine Do Rosario, Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.

In the U-10 category, Loyola (A), Margao, were the winners, while Loyola (B), Margao, were the runners-up.

The highest scorer and best player was Varian Caeiro, Loyola (A) and the most disciplined player was Ishanvi Chitnis, Don Bosco, Panjim. Rector of Don Bosco, Panjim, Fr Tamatur Cardozo; Don Bosco School, Panjim, Principal Fr Avin Carvalho; Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, Assistant Director Fr Jason Coelho; Economor of the INP Province Fr Francis Silveira; former Goa Basketball Association Secretary and member of GBA Pan India Fr Ralin; GBA Referee In-charge Olencio Dias; GBA former official member Maria Helen; former officio member and referee Flobert Monteiro were present for the prize distribution ceremony.

The Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, has taken the initiative to organise the tournament so that children get a taste of basketball and get coached to become a player later. Oratory Director Br James urged the parents to build interest in their children.
