RAIA: Loyola High School, Margao, were fortunate to enter the semi-finals of U-14 and U-12 boys after defeating Manovikas High School and Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna, respectively via tie-breakers after both matches ended in a draw in the 5th all Goa inter-school Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa football tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at Seraulim panchayat ground, on Saturday.
In the U-12 boys category, Marina English High School, Verna, defeated Infant Jesus High School, Colva, 5-4 via tie-breaker in an exciting match after both teams were locked in a goalless draw during the regular time.
Saviour of the World, Loutolim, pipped St Jude High School, Betalbatim, 1-0. St Jude HS lost the match after they conceived a goal scored by their own team player. The King’s School defeated St Britto’s High School, Mapusa, 2-0. Joshua D’Costa scored a brace for The King’s School.
Saviour of the World won against Mae Dos Pobres 3-2 via tiebreaker after both teams ended in a goalless draw.
Loyola HS defeated Manovikas High School via tie-breaker after both teams were locked in a 1-1 draw. Jasal Fernandes gave Manovikas HS the 1-0 lead. However, Shay Fernandes scored for Loyola HS in the dying minutes of the game and ultimately win the match in the tie-breaker 3-2.
In the U-14 boys category, Saviour of the World had to sweat it out to beat St Xavier’s HS, Velim, 9-8 via tie-breaker after both teams were tied in a 3-3 draw. Ashwin Miranda scored a brace and Stallo Fernandes scored a goal for Saviour of the World. Velim Casroy Fernandes scored a brace and Swedon Simoes scored a goal for St Xavier’s HS.
Perpetual Succor HS defeated Manovikas HS 2-0. Goal scorers were Aryan Nevagi and Anosh Vaz. St Britto’s HS, Mapusa, went down fighting to The King’s School 4-3 via tie-breaker.
In the match between Loyola HS and Regina Martyrum, Loyola HS proved to be the better shooters to win the match in the tie-breaker 5-4 after both teams ended in a goalless draw.
In the U-14 girls category, The King’s School hammered St Jude HS, Betalbatim, 5-0. Karen D’Souza scored a hat-trick and Analee D’Costa scored a brace.
For St Anne’s Institute, Agonda, Gwyneth Fernandes scored the all-important goal against Perpetual Succour Convent, Navelim, to win the game 1-0.
