RAIA: Maina Sports Club pipped Dando Boys, Benaulim, 1-0, to enter into the semi-finals of 23rd Benaulim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Dando Boys Club of Benaulim, at St John the Baptista ground, on Wednesday.
Mario Mascarenhas of Maina SC should have netted in the very 4th minute but Dando Boys goalkeeper was equal to the task. Then Sanford Rodrigues of Dando Boys’ long ranger failed to pop in into the Maina SC net in the 19th minute.
Maina SC coach Angelius Rebello gave an extra task to Milagres Fernandes of to control the midfield as well as the frontline in the second half. The plan worked with Milagres netting the match winner with a placement shot in the 45th minute.
Later, Dando Boys strikers tried their best to score but the defence line of Maina SC guarded their fortress till the end of the match and maintained 1-0 lead to win the match.
