RAIA: Maina Sports Club secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ambelim Sports Club to move into quarter-finals of the UCT Trophy 9-a-side inter-village football tournament organised by UC Telaulim at the government school ground, Telaulim, on Monday.
Both the teams started the match on an attacking mode in search of goals but missed golden opportunities which came their way.
Both teams were tied 0-0 at the lemon break.
Changing over, Maina SC created a move through Crizenal and Anslem and fed unmarked Milagres Fernandes, who took the ball and placed into the net beating the goalkeeper in the 45th minute of play.
Ambelim SC wasted many chances to level terms. Milagres Fernandes of Maina Sports Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by Renald Fernandes.
Earlier, United Club of Telaulim moved past Betalbatm Sporting Club 6-5 via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals.
UC Telaulim opened the scoreline through Ronaldo Pereira in the 10th minute, while Betalbatm Sporting Club equalised through Selroy Fernandes.
In the second half, Betalbatim SC netted the second goal through Elroy Fernandes in the 35th minute but the joy was short-lived as Melistan Dias levelled term for UCT Telaulim in the 59th minute.
Rommy Ferrao presented the man-of-the-match award to Ronaldo Pereira of United Club of Telaulim.
