On June 9, 2025, Mahendra Singh Dhoni etched his name among cricket’s immortals as he became the 11th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame. This accolade cements Dhoni’s status as one of the game’s greatest leaders, wicketkeepers, and finishers. His induction follows a glittering list of Indian legends, including Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Anil Kumble.
Dhoni’s journey in international cricket is a tale of resilience, tactical brilliance, and unmatched composure under pressure. Since his debut in 2004, where he was dismissed for a duck, Dhoni’s rise was meteoric. He announced himself with a blistering 148 against Pakistan in only his fifth ODI and later stunned the world with a record-breaking 183* against Sri Lanka, the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs.
Across formats, Dhoni’s numbers are staggering:
Tests: 90 matches, 4876 runs at 38.09, 6 centuries, 294 dismissals.
ODIs: 350 matches, 10773 runs at an average of 50.57, 10 centuries, 829 dismissals (overall), and the unforgettable 91* in the 2011 World Cup final.
T20Is: 98 matches, 1617 runs, 116 fours, 52 sixes.
“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,” the 43-year-old told.
