MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club came from the behind to edge past Betalbatim Sporting Club 7-6 via the sudden death to enter the quarter-finals of the 30th Strikers Trophy All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Young Strikers Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday.

Betalbatim settled quickly and went ahead in the seventh minute when medio Kingslee Fernandes finished off a low cross by James Rebello. Navelim were again caught on the wrong foot five minutes later as Betalbatim skipper Aniston Fernandes sped down the middle to slot past rival goalkeeper Cleto Gomes.
Navelim got going after resumption with midfielder Rovan Pereira bundling in from close range.
Thereafter, Betalbatim had to defend their slender lead but at the fag end of the match Navelim striker Alvito Colaco blasted in the equalizer to take the match into the tie-breaker.
Navelim scored through Clinton Niaso, Sandy Colaco, Jaison Pereira, Nevin Pereira, Cleto Gomes while Betalbatim found the net through Joemax, Kliensman Rebello, James Rebello, and Aniston Fernandes. Earlier Nehru Stadium manager Gurudas Vernekar, who was the chief guest for the inaugural match was welcomed and introduced to the teams by club chairman Jaju Fernandes along with Filipe Fernandes and Henry Fernandes.
