RAIA: Navelim Villagers Union edged past USC Seraulim 5-3 via tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 19th Super Soccer inter-village football tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at the St John de Baptista ground, on Monday.
Navelim Villagers Union entered the field a man less but were determined to take the game to their confident opponents. Navelim Villagers Union almost broke the deadlock when Vebon Rebello floated in a flag kick which was headed well by lanky defender Velito Costa but the ball struck the post in the 20th minute.
At a close of lemon break, USC Seraulim goalkeeper Raynell Pereira pushed out a stinging shot by Ronaldo Pereira.
After resumption, USC Seraulim mounted pressure but Navelim Villagers Union defenders Vellitp Costa, Joyson Coutinho, Princely Costa and Aden Pereira were rock solid to keep their citadel clear.
With no goals at the end of regulation time, the tie-breaker was applied in which Navelim Villagers Union were successful through Ronaldo Pereira, Velito Costa, Joyson Coutinho, Aden Pereira and Sandroy Costa. For USC Seraulim only Ashley Fernandes, Floscio Fernandes and Sevin Fernandes were on target.
The man-of-the-match was awarded to Joyson Coutinho of Navelim Villagers Union by Domnic Fernandes.
