MAPUSA: Nerul Sports Club waited for the penalty shoot before they got the better of Dunes Sports Club by 4-3 margin to clinch the Xetrapal Cup organised by Xetrapal Sports Club at the Oxel ground, recently.
The match was dominated by Dunes SC but the players failed to find the back of the net, with the match ending in a goalless draw.
Nerul SC players kept their cool and won the match via tie-breaker.
At the start of the match, chief guest Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo, guest of honour Goa Football Association (GFA) President Caitano Fernandes, special invitees Parra Sarpanch Daniel Lobo, GFA Vice-President Joanathan D’Souza, GFA committee members, sarpanch and members of Siolim-Oxel Village Panchayat, Deputy Sarpanch of Sodiem and former GFA member Francis Fernandes were introduced to the players and match officials by Xetrapal Sports Club President Laxmidas (Mahesh) Vaigankar and other committee members.
Chief guest Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo presented the winners cash prize of Rs 80,000 plus trophy, while the runners-up a cash prize of Rs 50,000 plus trophy. The semi-finalists were given Rs10,000 and trophy each (Peddem Bomm SC and BAFF Bicholim).
