Having achieved a career Golden Slam, Novak Djokovic is currently not seeing much success in recent matches. The tennis star has lost several crucial games in recent times, leading to his withdrawal from the upcoming Italian Open.
The 37-year-old Serbian, currently ranked world No. 5, announced his withdrawal following consecutive straight-sets losses, against Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final, Alejandro Tabilo in Monte Carlo, and most recently to world No. 44 Matteo Arnaldi in the second round of the Madrid Open. This marks the first time since 2018 that Djokovic has suffered three consecutive defeats.
Djokovic has not won an ATP title since the 2023 season-ending championships. His only major success in 2024 so far has been winning Olympic gold in Paris. His withdrawal from Rome, confirmed by tournament organisers, means he will likely enter the French Open without any competitive clay-court matches this season. Djokovic is chasing his 100th career title and a record-extending 25th Grand Slam at Roland Garros, but recent injuries, including a torn hamstring at the Australian Open and a knee injury last year, have massively affected his schedule and performance.
The Italian Open’s social media bid him farewell with the message: “See you next year, Nole.”
