
MAPUSA: Hosts Peddem Bomm SC had to wait for the penalty shoot-out to register a 6-5 win over Nerul SC and lift the Peddem Bomm Cup in the finals of the football tournament at Peddem ground, Anjuna, on Sunday.
Peddem Bomm had an opportunity to take the lead in the 19th minute but Rohan Kamble's well executed free-kick was saved by the Nerul goalkeeper.
At the other end, Peddem Bomm's custodian Soma Korgaonkar thwarted Chatan Dabholkar in a one-on-one situation.
With the match ending in a goalless draw, the tie-breaker was enforced in which Peddem Bomm scored through Rohan Kamble, Kunal Virnodkar, Samuel D'Souza, Soma Korgaonkar, Sagun Shirodkar and Vinayak Mulgoankar. Aniket Agarwadkar, Prajot Shirodkar, Chaten Dabholkar, Aniket Naik and Anand Mangaonkar scored for Nerul.
Following prizes were awarded by the panchayat members: Man-of-the match - Aman Govekar (Nerul). Best player - Chatan Dabolkar (Nerul).
First goal - Aniket Agarwadkar (Nerul). Best goalkeeper - Soma Korgaonkar (Peddem Bomm). Best defender - Akshay Vengurlekar (Peddem Bomm). Best midfielder - Rohan Kamble (Peddem Bomm).
Best disciplined team - Cunchelim SC.
Chief guest, MLA Delilah Lobo presented Rs. 60,000 plus the trophy to Peddem Bomm. Fr. Ransom Pereira and Das Chemulkar, sarpanch of Anjuna-Caisua, gave away the runners-up prize of Rs. 40,000 plus the trophy to Nerul.
