DONA PAULA: IM Molenda Marcin of Poland proved his dominance in the Rapid section scoring 8 points out of 9, winning the gold medal in the open category at the 24th World IPCA Rapid Chess Championship 2025 held at the International Centre, here.

He was a clear one point ahead of Ayapov Alimzhan of Kazhakistian who scored 7 points and won the silver medal, while FM Valenta Vit Vaclav of Czech Republic also on 7 points won the bronze medal.

In the women's category, Leszner Liliana of Poland, Zakharova Evgeniya of Russia and Khishigbayar Mijgee of Mongolia won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the wheelchair men's category, IM Obodchuk Andrei of Russia, Vaibhav Gautam of India and Alekseev Mikhail of Russia won the gold, silver and bronze respectively, while women’s category, Dirkasri M from India, Sharon Aby also from India and Tran Thi Bich Thuy from Vietnam were awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

Medals were also given in the U-20 boys and girls and U-15 boys and girls category. Altogether 24 medals were presented, out of which India had a rich haul of 9 medals. The standard section continues after a rest day on Monday.
