PANJIM: Portais Sporting Club, Panjim, secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Amravati Sports Club, Amona-Bicholim, in the GFA Division II League (Ilhas Zone) match played at the Taleigão ground, on Sunday.
With this win, Portais SC have qualified for the all Goa play-offs. Led by captain Nitesh Kunkalekar, Portais SC displayed a well-balanced performance. The defensive unit consisting Mukesh Kunkalekar, Babash Shirvoikar, Ayush Mardolkar and Nitesh Kunkalekar, kept Amravati SC’s attack in check, while midfielders Vishal Adkonkar, Mahendra Shirvoikar and Antonio Costa controlled possession.
Forwards Rohit Mardolkar, Vignesh Shirodkar and Devesh Adkonkar consistently troubled the opposition defence and goalkeeper Elesh Shirvoikar put in a solid performance to ensure a clean sheet.
Amravati SC fought hard, with midfielders Aadarsh Fadte, Rahul Chaudhury, Vithoba Dharne and Akshay Gauns making notable efforts, but they were unable to break through Portais SC defence.
The first goal came in the 30th minute when Vignesh Shirodkar finished off a well-placed pass from Vishal Adkonkar, giving Portais SC a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, under the strategic guidance of FIFA B Licence coach Frankie Mascarenhas, Portais SC adopted an attacking 4-4-2 formation, utilising the flanks effectively. This approach resulted in two more goals, both scored by Mahendra Shirvoikar, sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory.With this win, Portais Sporting Club now have 18 points from 10 matches, winning six games with one match still in hand, securing their spot in the Division I League play-offs.
The match was officiated by GFA Referee Domnic D’Araujo, with Anthony Elvis Simoes serving as the Match Commissioner. Portais SC now looks ahead to the play-offs, aiming to continue their impressive form.
