RAIA: Navelim Sporting Club sealed a 2-0 win over Fr Agnelo YC Paroda to storm into the next round of the 3rd Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at the Chinchinim Church ground, on Wednesday.
After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came in the 49th minute when Ronaldo Pereira fired home for Navelim. Just five minutes later, Meliston Dias doubled the lead with a neat finish to put the result beyond doubt.
Earlier, Navelim had dominated possession. Vellington Almeida’s long-range strike in the 10th minute went narrowly wide, while Ronaldo missed a one-on-one chance in the 14th, denied by the Fr Agnelo goalkeeper. At the other end, Fr Agnelo squandered a free-kick just outside the box in the 16th minute.
Navelim’s sharper finishing in the second half proved decisive. Ronaldo Pereira was named player of the match.
