PANJIM: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, triumphed over St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, 1-0 in the inaugural match of Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Championship for Men played at Goa University ground, Taleigao Plateau, on Friday.

Both teams demonstrated commendable skills, resulting in a scoreless first half. The second half remained equally competitive, with neither team able to find the net until Rosary College secured a goal during injury time scored by S Fernandes.

In the second match, Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, thrashed Goa Dental College 4-0. During the first half, GEC netted two goals, with Aryan Carvalho scoring in the 23rd minute and Ketan Khandeparkar adding another in the 27th minute. The second half featured two additional goals from GEC, including another from Aryan Carvalho in the 57th minute and a goal by Piyush Mawiya in the 65th minute.

In the third match, the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, downed PES’ Ravi S Naik College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, 3-0. Manish Gaude of Government College Khandola netted the first goal, concluding the half with a score of 1-0.

The second half witnessed both teams striving vigorously for win. However, Government College Khandola emerged victorious, successfully adding two more goals to their score line, courtesy, Suyash Chodankar in the 46th and 56th minute.

At Rosary Church ground, CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, outplayed Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, 3-0. CES College opened the scoring early in the first half, with Saish Gaonkar netting a goal in the 2nd minute. The second half continued to favor CES College, as they added two more goals, with Akshay Velip contributing in the 36th and 48th minute to secure their victory.

Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, triumphed over PG Goa University in a sudden death, concluding with a score of 6-5 after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

During the first half, both teams demonstrated equal prowess, each netting one goal. PG Goa University took the lead in the 6th minute with a goal from Dutta Nikam, followed by Dhempe College equalising in the 33rd minute through Shashank Kenkre.

The second half continued to showcase balanced play, with Dhempe College scoring again in the 58th minute, courtesy of Shashank Kenkre. However, PG Goa University quickly responded, levelling the score at 2-2 with a goal from Sanvesh Shetkar in the 60th minute. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Dhempe College successfully converted six goals, scored by Shashank Kenkre, Aditya Balekar, Harsh Harijan, Yash Kamble, Kartik Kholkar, and Yash Dhabolkar.

PG Goa University managed to score five goals through Chrisual Gonsalves, Dutta Nikam, Sherwin Pereira, Ritesh Bind, and Sarvesh Shetkar.

In the third match, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, secured a decisive victory over VP’s Mandre College of Commerce, Economics and Management, Mandrem-Pernem, 4-0.

The first half was characterised by the dominance of Chowgule College, which netted three goals - first by Shanon Furtado in the 3rd minute, followed by two goals from Adarsh Raj in the 17th and 24th minute.

In the second half, Chowgule College solidified their win by adding another goal, with Adarsh Raj completing his hat-trick in the 41st minute.

Earlier, Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda, Margao, secured a decisive victory over the Goa College of Hospitality and Culinary Education, Cidade-de-Goa, Vainguinim Beach, 6-0.

The first half featured three goals from Borda Government College, with Ozzie Dias netting two in the 8th and 21st minute and Shabaz Shaikh scoring in the 9th minute.

The second half continued to showcase Borda Government College’s dominance as Shabaz Shaikh added another goal in the 50th minute, followed by contributions from Suraj Nagekar in the 57th minute and Santosh Vishwakarma in the 67th minute.

Goa College of Art, Altinho-Panjim, exhibited complete dominance, securing a decisive victory over Goa College of Agriculture, Old Goa, 6-0. Ayush Phadte (6th & 40th minute), (Preslez 14th minute), Sagar Gauns (35th minute), Harshad Gavdi (42nd minute) and Suraj Chaudhary (52nd minute) scored for Goa College of Art.

The Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, got a walkover against BSP’s Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre, Shiroda.

Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar, secured a decisive victory over V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, 4-0.

Fr Agnel College netted through Sachin Mardolkar (15th minute), Mohit Santondekar (51st minute), Shubert Borges (54th minute) and Diptesh Khandeparkar (58th minute).

At Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, triumphed over Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna, 4-0. DBC Engineering netted with the efforts of Sohan Kavlekar (3rd minute), Teran Fernandes (14th and 31st minute) and Shreyash P (24th minute).

At Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, edged past over Don Bosco College, Panjim, in a penalty shootout, 4-3 after the match ended in a 4-4 draw at full time.

During the first half, Don Bosco netted three goals - Zidane Fernandes (6th minute), Vittal Kharat (17th minute), and Ajay Raj (28th minute).

In the second half, MES College turned the tide, scoring four goals through Jaldish Chawan (46th and 61st minute), Pradeep Bind (56th minute) and Edson Souza (70th minute).

In the subsequent penalty shootout, MES College successfully converted four goals, scored by Edson Souza, Jaldish Chawan, and Nehal Shaikh, while Don Bosco managed to score three goals through Alino Colaco, Krishab Madkaikar and Zidane Fernandes.
