MANGESHI: Promising young paddler Ruhaan Shaikh is poised for a double crown as he stormed into the U-13 and U-15 boys finals displaying remarkable skill and composure at the 7th Mangeshi All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at VD & SV Wagle High School, on Thursday.
In the U-13 final, top seed Ruhaan will face second seed Yug Prabhu after a solid 3-1 semi-final win over Vedant Wagle, while Yug breezed past Yuvaan Sanke 3-0.
Earlier in the quarters, Ruhaan downed Ashank Dalvi 3-0, Vedant beat Aarish Shaikh 3-0, Yuvaan edged out Ishaan Colaso 3-2 and Yug overcame Noel Kurian 3-0.
In the U-15 category, Ruhaan, seeded third, stunned second seed Dhruva Kamat in a thrilling 3-2 semi-final to set up a high-voltage title clash with top seed Chandan Caro, who reached the final with a dominant 3-0 win over Vedant Wagle.
Ruhaan had earlier defeated Yug Prabhu 3-1 in the quarters, while Chandan got past Ishaan Colaso 3-0, Vedant beat Vivaan Prabhudesai 3-1, and Dhruva overcame Aayush Sahakari 3-0.
The tournament is being conducted by Mangirish Vidyadayini Samstha in association with Wagle HS Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee, under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association.
