
PANJIM: S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, won the Men and Women Badminton Inter-Collegiate Championships 2024-25 organised by Goa University at SAG Indoor Stadium, Campal, recently.
In the women’s final, S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics outplayed Goa College of Pharmacy 2-1.
Riya Haldankar defeated Muskan Sharma 21-4, 21-6 in the first singles. Manjushri Raut outsmarted Malaikar Lobo 21-13, 21-8 in the second singles. In the deciding doubles match, Riya Haldankar and Malaika Lobo outsmarted Manjushi Raut and Muskan Sharma 21-11, 21-12.
In the well-contested men’s final, S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics outsmarted Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, 3-0.
In the first singles, Yash Gokarnakar defeated Mohammad Zain Sayed 21-14, 21-7. Rudra Fadte outplayed Abhishek Swami 21-14, 21-8 in the second singles. In the doubles, Aryaman Saraf and Rudra Fadte outplayed Atharv Surlikar and Atharva Pednekar 21-7, 21-5.
Best player of the men’s championship was shared between Abhishek Swami of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, and Rudra Fadte of S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics.
Best player of the women’s championship was awarded to Manjushri Raut of Goa College of Pharmacy.
Chief guest Dr G Shaber Ali, principal of V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar; guest of honour Prof Manoj Kamat, principal, S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, and Roy Athide, badminton coach, Sports Authority of Goa along with Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-ups during the presentation ceremony.
