MAPUSA: Saligao United SC stormed into the quarter-finals of the 1st Vedanta Trophy 2025, organised by Sinquerim SC, with a commanding 4-1 victory over Xetrapal SC, at the Mayem ground, on Wednesday.
After a goalless first half where both teams cautiously assessed each other, Saligao United emerged sharper after the break. Abu Saliatt opened the scoring in the 35th minute, followed by a quickfire goal from ex-Dempo SC player Latesh Mandrekar in the 38th.
Mandrekar doubled his tally in the 47th minute to make it 3-0, and two minutes later, Soham Shetikar added a fourth to seal Saligao’s dominance.
Xetrapal SC managed a consolation in the 60th minute through Chandrakant Shirodkar.
Latesh Mandrekar was named man-of-the-match, with the award presented by Supraj Tari.
