MAPUSA: Saligao United delivered a commanding performance to thrash CAC Cansaulim SC, 5-1, in a lopsided contest at the 24th Vagator Soccer 2025, held at the Vagator football ground, on Monday.
The match began with Saligao pressing high and they were rewarded in the 5th minute when Charnel Fernandes calmly slotted home into the far corner to give his side an early 1-0 lead.
Cansaulim found a way back in the 22nd minute after Agnelo D’Souza was brought down inside the box by Abusalia Havaldar. Arron Fernandes converted the resulting penalty to level the scores at 1-1.
However, Saligao dominated proceedings after the break. In the 34th minute, Orton Pinto restored their lead with a superb solo effort, starting from a pinpoint pass by Kenrick Menezes. Just four minutes later, Murphy Fernandes added a spectacular strike to make it 3-1.
Saligao kept their foot on the pedal. In the 44th minute, Kenrick Menezes turned scorer, firing a stunning long-range effort from just outside the box to extend the lead to 4-1.
The rout was complete in the 48th minute when Narayan Chodankar scored Saligao's fifth, finishing off a smart assist from the in-form Murphy Fernandes.
Murphy Fernandes was named man-of-the-match for his goal and assist in an all-round impressive display.
