RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club came from behind to score a thrilling 2-1 win over Maina SC, Curtorim, in the second quarter-final to march into the semi-finals of 34th Super Soccer football tournament played at Benaulim ground, on Sunday.
Maina SC looked the sharper side early on, taking the lead in the 7th minute when Anslem Fernandes latched onto Nickson Casthana’s exquisite through-ball to finish with style by netting in.
Sao Jose de Areal SC responded with grit, equalising in the 25th minute with Daryl Costa’s clinical strike.
The second half was a tense affair, with Maina SC creating chances but finding no way past Sao Jose de Areal SC’s disciplined backline, led superbly by Bersal Viegas.
As the clock ticked, Sao Jose de Areal SC’s midfield engine roared to life with John Gomindes and Daryl Costa dominating the proceedings and Daryl’s decisive 50th-minute goal completed the turnaround. Maina SC’s late surge was in vain as Sao Jose de Areal SC’s defence stood tall.
