RAIA: In a pulsating second semi-final of the 26th All Goa Our Lady of Merces football tournament played at Chinchinim Church groung, on Monday, Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club edged out CRC Chinchinim 6-4 via tie-breaker, after the two sides were deadlocked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

CRC Chinchinim drew the first blood as early in the 16th minute when Larsen Rebello deftly placed the ball past the Sao Jose de Areal SC custodian to the delight of the crowd.

However, the joy was short-lived as just two minutes later, John Gomendes unleashed a spectacular strike to restore parity for Areal.

The match turned into a high-octane battle, with both sides trading attacks at breakneck pace. CRC Chinchinim came dangerously close on multiple occasions but Sao Jose de Areal SC goalkeeper Ashwin Travasso stood tall pulling off crucial saves to keep his side in contention.

With no further goals in regulation time, the tie-breaker decided the fate of the match. Sao Jose de Areal kept their composure from the spot, with Bersal Viegas, Darryl Costa, Desi Olivera, Neville Fernandes and Ashwin Travasso converting their penalties.

For CRC Chinchinim, Steflon D’Costa, Larson Rebello and Shario Gomes found the mark but it wasn’t enough to prevent Sao Jose de Areal from marching into the final.

Sao Jose de Areal will now face Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, in what promises to be a blockbuster final.
