Sayed ’tricks in MES College’s win, Sanquelim College move up

RAIA: MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, delivered a commanding performance against St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, securing a 5-0 win in the opening match to march ahead in the 2nd Inter-College Football Tournament organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Students’ Council of CES College of Arts and Commerce, at the DSYA ground, Ambelim.

Striker Sayed Nadaf was in scintillating form, netting a hat-trick, while Yunus Shaikh and Anand Lamani added a goal each to seal the fate.

MES College controlled the ball possession throughout the match and never allowed their opponents to settle into rhythm. Sayed Nadaf was named the man-of-the-match.

In another match, Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, edged past Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, with a narrow 2-1 win.

Government College Khandola struck first goal through Gradhar Mhato, who unleashed a stunning long-range effort in the 22nd minute. However, Government College Sanquelim regrouped in the second half, with Anish Palai levelling the score in the 38th minute. The match-winner came in the 49th minute when Nakul Gawde coolly converted a penalty.

For his all-round effort and midfield dominance, Zahid Khan of Government College Sanquelim was named the man-of-the-match.

On the second day, Rosary College of Arts and Commerce, Navelim, will face Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal’s Shree Mallika Arjun College and Shree Chetan Manju Dessai, Cancona, and Government college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, will meet CES college of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim.

Earlier, the opening ceremony was presided over by Principal of CES College Prof Brahma Edwin Barreto and graced by Antonio Prestly Pereira, head at The King’s Sports Academy and an AIFF Coach Educator, as the chief guest.
