RAIA: In a heart-stopping semi-final clash of the Benaulim Panchayat Cup, Sporting Club of Davorlim edged out tournament favourites Navelim Villagers Union, 1-0, to move into the final, at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim, on Thursday.
Thanks to Alent Colaco’s clinical finish in the first half. The match was a high-octane affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities in a frenetic pace.
Navelim Villagers Union dominated the second half, launching wave after wave of attacks in search of an equaliser. Ronaldo Pereira and Clinton Niasso came agonisingly close but Sporting Club of Davorlim goalkeeper Francisco Colaco was phenomenal, pulling off a string of breathtaking saves to deny Sporting Club of Davorlim hopes.
Despite the intense pressure, Sporting Club of Davorlim’s defence held firm, and Alent early strike proved to be the match-winner. The win has boosted Sporting Club of Davorlim’s confidence and they'll look to continue their momentum in the final on Sunday.
