RAIA: Sporting Club of Davorlim booked their place in the semi-finals of Benaulim Villagers Cup with a gritty 1-0 win over CAC Cansaulim in a tense quarter-final clash at the St John the Baptist panchayat ground, on Monday.
The opening half was a midfield tug-of-war, with both sides playing cautiously and squandering half-chances as they focused more on containment than attack.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute when William Niasso curled in a brilliant free-kick that sailed past the CAC Cansaulim wall and goalkeeper.
CAC Cansaulim threw men forward in search of an equaliser, but SC Davorlim’s backline stood tall, repelling every wave of attack with discipline and determination. In the end, Niasso’s moment of magic proved decisive, as SC Davorlim held firm to seal an excellent and hard-fought win.
