RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal registered a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guardian Angel SC to storm into the semi-finals of 44th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary Church ground, Navelim, on Tuesday.
Guardian Angel SC’s Vitorino Fernandes came close early on, missing the target by a whisker, while Jeston Fernandes of Sao Jose de Areal failed to convert a golden opportunity in the 12th minute.
Vitorino soon made amends, putting Guardian Angel SC ahead in the 18th minute with a curling strike that gave his side the early advantage. However, Sao Jose de Areal came back strongly in the second half.
Just after the restart, Brussel Viegas rose high to nod in a glancing header, restoring parity at 1-1 in the 46th minute. Ten minutes later, Azilton Viegas latched onto a loose ball inside the Guardian Angel SC box and coolly slotted home the winner in the 56th minute.
