RAIA: St Anthony SC, Assolda, scrapped past Navelim Sporting Club 7-6 via tie-breaker to storm into the semi-finals of 52nd Custodio memorial football tournament played at Raia panchayat ground, on Friday.
The game began with an early chance for Navelim SC’s Jayson Coutinho in the 6th minute, but his effort failed to find the net. Shortly after, a swift counter-attack by Cajetan Fernandes of St Anthony SC saw him narrowly miss the target in the 10th minute. Navelim SC took the lead in the 35th minute when Roland Pereira rose to meet a cross with a glancing header, sending the ball into the net.
In the second half, St Anthony SC responded with renewed intensity. A clever move by Moises D’Sa paid off in the 46th minute as he executed a precise placement shot to equalise at 1-1. With the full-time score locked at 1-1, the match proceeded to a penalty shoot-out. St Anthony SC won 7-6.
