St Anthony’s SC clinch Peddem Bomm Cup

MAPUSA: St Anthony’s SC, Marna-Siolim, had to wait for the penalty shoot-out before they got the better of their neighbours Xetrapal SC, Oxel, by 5-4 margin to clinch the glittering Peddem Bomm Cup organised by Peddem Bomm SC at the Peddem ground, Anjuna.

Xetrapal SC did have better ball possession and strikes at the rival goal but St Anthony’s SC goalkeeper Prajyot Naik time and again came to his team’s rescue.

In the last quarter of the first session, Prajyot Phadte brought excellent saves to block Sonu Mandrekar’s brace and Kanya Govekar strikes.

On crossing ends, once again goalkeeper Prajyot Phadte blocked Sonu’s strike from a close.

Anthony’s SC almost had the last laugh but Mayrush Naik power-packed shot was saved by Xetrapal SC custodian Ashitosh Gadekar.

With the match ending in a goalless draw, the penalty shoot-out was enforced where St Anthony’s SC proved victorious winning the match by 5-4 margin.

Earlier, Armando Colaco, Dronacharya Awardee, was felicitated by Lino Pereira, president of Peddem Bomm SC and Francis D’Souza.

St Anthony’s SC received the winners’ trophy and cash prize of Rs 75,000, while Xetrapal SC had to be content with runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000 from chief guest Armando Agnelo Colaco, guest of honour Laxmidas Chimulkar.

Also present were special invitees Climax Lawrence, Goa Football Association’s former committee member Pramanand Mandrekar and Anjuna panchayat members. Govind and Domingos compered on the occasion.
