MAPUSA: St Joseph High School, Calangute, emerged victorious in the first 7-a-side inter-School football tournament organised by the Don Bosco Past Pupils Association, Panjim, in collaboration with Don Bosco High School, Panjim.
The one-day tournament witnessed exciting football action with participation from eight schools across Goa namely Don Bosco High School, Panjim; Marina English High School, Verna; Loyola High School, Margao; Fr Agnel High School, Pilar; Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna; St Joseph High School, Calangute, St Britto High School, Mapusa, and The Rosary High School, Cujira.
The tournament kicked off at 8.15 am with a warm welcome by Albert D'Sa, president of the Don Bosco Past Pupils Association, followed by the official inauguration by Fr Avin Carvalho, principal of Don Bosco High School, Panjim.
In a tightly contested final, St Joseph High School edged past Marina English High School in a dramatic tie-breaker (4-3) after both teams played out a goalless draw in regulation time.
The match was marked by aggressive yet disciplined play from both sides. Marina HS’ Joy Calado nearly broke the deadlock early on, but his effort went wide. St Joseph HS’ goalkeeper Anshu Singh stood tall with numerous key saves, while midfielder Vinizio Silveira impressed with his control and creativity, including a near-miss free-kick that struck the crossbar.
All participating teams received certificates, while the winners and runners-up were awarded trophies and cash prizes.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Clyde Lobo, secretary of the Don Bosco Past Pupils Association.
