MAPUSA: St Savio’s Sports Club, Calangute, added another feather to their cap as they pipped Assonora United FC 1-0 in the final to clinch the 3rd Rosary Cup Mandrem Soccer tournament organised by the Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem, at Mandrem Village Panchayat ground, recently.
The final was witnessed by a large football loving crowd which saw attacking football displayed by both the teams. However, the all-important goal for the winners came in the 60th minute of play with Vengurlekar finding the net with a neat placement.
St Savio’s SC received the winners’ trophy and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while Assonora United FC had to be content with runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 60,000.
Chief guest Mandrem Constituency MLA Jit Arolkar distributed the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Mandrem Village Panchayat Sarpanch Robert Fernandes and other dignitaries.
Earlier, Dunes Sports Club President James Fernandes welcomed the guests. Girls U-15 winners of North Goa Khelo India and boys U-15 winners Goa Football Association Division II League were felicitated. Also six students from three different schools of Mandrem who stood first and second were felicitated.
