PANJIM: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, and Dempo Charities Trust’s Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira-Bambolim, emerged champions in the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Badminton Championship 2025-26 for Men and Women held at SAG Indoor Stadium, Campal, here, recently.
In the women’s final, SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics outplayed PG Goa University 2-0. Riya Haldankar outsmarted Lesha Lotlikar 21-10, 21-13 in the first singles. Malaikar Lobo got the better of Sarvadhnya Patil 21-6, 21-8 in the second singles.
In semi-final, SS Dempo College downed Sridora Caculo College, Mapusa, 2-0 and PG Goa University beat Don Bosco College, Panjim, 2-0.
Sridora Caculo College, Mapusa, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, was awarded with joint third place. The best player of the championship women was awarded to Riya Haldankar from SS Dempo College.
In a well-contested men’s final, St Xavier’s College took it easy against Don Bosco College Engineering, Fatorda, 3-0. In the first singles, Ashmeet Parsekar was too good for Rahul Revankar 21-11, 21-6. Yousuf Shaikh had a cake walk against Sohan Kavlekar 21-14, 21-8 in the second singles. In the doubles, Ashmeet Parsekar and Yousuf Shaikh defeated Sohan Kavlekar and Rahul Revankar 21-7, 21-7.
In semi-final, St Xavier’s College defeated Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna, 3-1 and Don Bosco College Engineering outplayed Don Bosco College, Panjim, 3-2.
Padre Conceicao College of Engineering and Don Bosco College was awarded with joint third place.
The best player of the championship men was awarded to Yousuf Shaikh from St Xavier’s College.
Chief guest Ashok Chodankar, Deputy Director DHE Academics and guest of honour Roy Athide, badminton coach, Sports Authority of Goa along with Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of physical education and sports, Goa University presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
