RAIA: In a tightly contested match of the 27th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament, Uguem Rising Club secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Arlem Youth Association, Raia, to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
The match, played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, saw both teams start strongly in the first half. Displaying attacking intent, both Uguem RC and Arlem YA created several chances, but neither side could find the breakthrough. Goalkeepers at both ends were in fine form, making crucial saves to keep the scoreline goalless at halftime.
The second half brought a shift in momentum and energy. Just minutes into the restart, Uguem RC’s forward Austin made the difference. Capitalising on a well-timed through ball, he calmly slotted the ball past the Arlem YA keeper in the 36th minute, giving Uguem RC a vital 1-0 lead.
Despite the setback, Arlem YA fought hard to equalise.
They launched multiple attacks and pushed bodies forward, but the Uguem RC defence held firm, showing composure and discipline under pressure. The Raia side’s efforts went in vain as they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Uguem RC’s lone goal proved enough to see them through to the next round. The match showcased grit, determination, and moments of brilliance, particularly from Austin, whose goal was the defining moment of the game.
