RAIA: United Boys of Ambaulim scrapped past Union of Chinchinim Villagers 10-9 via tie-breaker in the final to emerge champions in the 3rd Fr Bruno Leitao memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at the Our Lady of Hope Church ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams were tied at 1-1 in the normal time. Both teams gave their best in front of the large spectators.
United Boy of Ambaulim missed two early chances to score through Crimson Fernandes and Felixon Fernandes in the 3rd and 6th minute. Then Leslie Costa of Union of Chinchinim Villages missed a chance to score in the 12th minute.
It was Felixon of United Boys of Ambaulim who netted the first goal of the match with a placement shot in the 20th minute. Soon, Chadel Fernandes of Union of Chinchinim Villagers missed a chance to score.
It was Seagmond Rebello who netted the equaliser with a power-packed shot in the 39th minute for Union of Chinchinim Villagers.
Union of Chinchinim Villages doubled the lead through Segmond Rebello in the 48th minute.
Immediately, United Boys of Ambaulim levelled the score 2-2 through Alex Fernandes in the extra time.
At full time, the score remained 2-2 draw.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, United Boys of Ambaulim proved to be the better shooters.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of 40,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up had to be content with a purse of Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
