BAMBOLIM: WCM Gunjal Chopdekar emerged champion edging out WCM Swera on tie-break after both players scored 6.5 points out of seven rounds in the late Shripad V Kamat Tarcar and late Anusuya S Kamat Tarcar Memorial Women’s State Chess Championship organised by the Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association (TTCA) at the Mushtifund High School, Cujira-Bambolim, recently.
Their encounter in the sixth round had ended in a draw. WCM Swera was declared the runner-up, while Faizia Khan, with six points, secured the position of second runner-up.
Other prize winners: Shinel Rodrigues, Sayuri Naik, Sayyed Maizah, Sanvi Naik Gaonkar, Kaya Coutinho, Krutika Aggarwal, and Skyla Rodrigues.
Category prize winners (U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, Mustifund and Hedgewar School): Alaina Gomes, Navya Narvekar, Janelly Vaz, Samrithi Malkar, Shreesha Ghadi, Vania Dukle, Aaradhya Dessai, Brahmi Mangasuli, Pradnya Kakodkar, Sidonia Dacunha, Sayuri Prabhu Nasnodkar, Shravani Naik, Dhanvi Bhomkar, Chinmaee Kerkar, and Samruddhi Nagvenkar.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Dr Sanjeev Dalvi (son-in-law of late Shripad and Anusuya Kamat Tarcar), in the presence of Nandini Dalvi, daughter of late Shripad and Anusuya Kamat Tarcar; Goa Chess Association President Mahesh Candolkar, sponsor Chaitanya Tarcar, Chief Arbiter Arvind Mhamal, Deputy Chief Arbiter Dattaram Pinge, GCA Secretary Ashesh Keni, Beena Shankwalkar, Pallavi Kakodkar and other dignitaries from the Goa Chess Association and TTCA.
