BJP-MGP Rift Deepens as CM Sawant Asserts Claim Over Priol Seat

Priol is a BJP constituency and BJP will fight it. Those in the alliance who do not agree with this should leave the alliance now. I am not afraid of anyone. The development of Goa has been done only by the BJP government.

The BJP-MGP alliance appears to be heading for a split as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant publicly asserted his party’s claim over the Priol constituency, signaling a potential rift ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.

Speaking at a gathering of BJP workers in Priol, Sawant indirectly warned the MGP, stating unequivocally that the BJP would contest the seat and that those unwilling to accept this should exit the alliance

Despite the elections being more than a year away, the Chief Minister’s statement has significantly escalated political tensions in Ponda. Without explicitly naming its ally, Sawant made it clear that Priol would remain with the BJP, calling it a "white line on a black stone," and ruled out any compromise on the matter.

He urged party workers to recognize BJP’s role in Goa’s development, emphasizing continued financial support from the central government.

Chief Minister likely made this statement to appease BJP workers. However, decisions regarding the alliance and candidate selection for Priol will be determined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. I fully trust their judgment

The statement comes against the backdrop of MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar’s recent expression of intent to contest the Priol seat independently.

This has fueled speculation of shifting political dynamics in the region. When questioned about Sawant’s remarks, MGP leader and Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar downplayed the comments, suggesting they were intended to appease BJP workers.
