The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police has made a landmark drug seizure, arresting a Russian DJ found in possession of the potent and illicit drug GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate), valued at Rs. 16.88 lakhs.
Known as a "date rape drug" within party circles, GHB is being seized in Goa for the first time. The arrest followed an intensive investigation that began with a multi-crore LSD network bust last month, leading ANC officers to target this new synthetic drug infiltrating party scenes.
Drug Bust : Goa Police’s Anti-Narcotic Cell arrested a Russian DJ at her rented home in Keri, Pernem, seizing GHB valued at Rs. 16 lakhs and a small quantity of ganja.
Historic Seizure : This is the first-ever GHB seizure in Goa, marking a critical development in the state’s anti-narcotics efforts.
Operation Detail : The ANC’s three-week surveillance operation led to the DJ’s arrest following a tip-off from a recent LSD bust in Kerala.
Drug Profile: GHB, also known as Liquid Ecstasy, is infamous as a "date rape drug" due to its potent sedative effects, often used to spike drinks.
ANC’s Vigilance : With this bust, Goa Police intensifies its crackdown on new synthetic drugs infiltrating party scenes and vows to continue proactive drug enforcement across the state.
In a significant crackdown on synthetic narcotics, Goa Police's Anti-Narcotic Cell has apprehended a Russian DJ for possession of a commercial quantity of GHB, a powerful sedative drug commonly abused in party circuits and known for its association with drink-spiking crimes.
This landmark seizure marks Goa’s first arrest involving GHB, totaling an estimated Rs. 16.88 lakhs, including a small quantity of ganja found with the suspect.
The three-week investigation was initially triggered by an earlier ANC operation dismantling a national LSD network, where a Kerala man was detained with LSD valued over Rs. 1 crore. Intelligence from that case indicated the rising use of GHB within party scenes. This led ANC officers to track the Russian DJ, conducting a raid on her rented premises in Pernem after weeks of surveillance.
The suspect was subsequently presented before a magistrate and remanded to two days of police custody. PSI Sunil Falkar led the raid, with a team comprising HC Eustaquio Fernandes, PCs Sachin Atoskar, Vishal Shitole, and LPC Deepa.
