The highly anticipated IPL 2025 Qualifier-2 between Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by Shreyas Iyer, and Mumbai Indians (MI), captained by Hardik Pandya, is set to take place today, June 1, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It’s sure to be a big playoff clash, as the losing team will be eliminated, while the winner will face Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final on June 3.

Punjab enters this match after losing to RCB in Qualifier-1, while Mumbai earned their spot by defeating Gujarat in the Eliminator. However, weather forecasts suggest a 10% chance of rain, raising concerns about a possible washout.

What happens if PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 Qualifier gets washed out in Ahmedabad?

If rain forces the abandonment of the match without a single ball bowled, Punjab Kings will automatically qualify for the final. This is because they topped the IPL 2025 points table, securing 19 points and a net run rate of +0.372 from 14 matches. Mumbai, with 18 points, finished second.

According to IPL Playoff rules, there is no reserve day for Qualifiers or the Eliminator. If a playoff match ends in a tie, a Super Over is used to decide the winner (Rule 16.11.1). If a Super Over cannot be conducted due to weather, Appendix F is applied — which states that the team higher on the points table advances.

So, if rain disrupts play in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings will qualify for the IPL 2025 final without taking the field.
