Heart cries out for Lanka’s people

Jill Dale Rodrigues

While we celebrated Easter celebration with our families and our near and dear ones here in Goa, the heartbreaking news stormed TV news channels about the dastardly and cowardly blasts and suspected suicide attacks that shocked Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. Upon a random discussion asked by my son, "Mama why does this happen, is this why you often say smile life is short?" How unpredictable is life, as at one time we celebrate our religious celebration towards Jesus's resurrection to say that Alleluia he has risen, spread the news to all, while towards the other end, life is cut short with such unwarranted and such inhumane acts!

Those innocent people wanted to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and all that they got was death set by those who believe in nothing but violence and to test patience. Why attack those who have done nothing to you, that too during a service in progress? Why attack those who just wanted to celebrate life?

At this time we all need to wake up, unity is the need of the hour, we need to, in one voice, be vocal together no matter what is your religion, as we need to realise, humanity comes before religion. You need to learn to be a human before trying to put forth your robe of the religion you belong to, learning and teaching our young children the need to be humble and to help is the need of the hour.

There is a need to understand what is right and what is wrong. Does this point even have relevance to my article? Well yes it does! As we need to understand that with so much happening around, we need to teach ourselves and then our children how to be more careful and vigilant whether on social media or in person. Remember what has happened in Sri Lanka is not a day's plan to let serial blasts go off at 8 different places in one day but the manner in which it occurred there surely has been lot of planning involved. How else could as many as 8 blasts go off on the same day, think about it!

The pain and anguish that the people of Sri Lanka is going through, is surely tough and a hard truth that they won’t be able to forget, that is why we need to pray for them. We need to help understand that fighting is not the answer, killing innocent lives is not the answer, blame game right now is not needed, what is needed is to pray for them, to pray for World Peace which is the need of the hour!

At this point I can remember a very famous song sung by the world famous singer, the late Michael Jackson in one of his famous songs Heal the World it has a line, that goes like this, " Then why do we keep strangling life, Wound this earth, crucify its soul... Though it's plain to see, this world is heavenly, be God's glow" Yes, "Be God's glow" we were born in this world for a reason. A reason to love, to care, to be there for mankind (for all) to help but not to destruct, bring violence or blunder to this beautiful creation of God. Continue to pray for Sri Lanka for this time, our prayers is the need of the hour.
