The Transport Department after going slow for some time has now once again unleashed cops to harass and target the wallets of all the two- wheeler riders for not wearing helmets not just on highways but also in the interior village roads of Goa. Of course, these cops from the traffic cell claim that the reason why they have re-started this ongoing drive against those for not wearing helmets then that’s not to extort money but to save a few precious lives and to bring the figure of accidents down in Goa.  

   Well, I personally always believe that the reason why most people die in road accidents then that’s not for wearing helmets (as being hyped by cops from the traffic cell in the local media) but because some people simply don’t concentrate or just don’t know how to drive on roads as they are always given their driving licences (mostly females) by paying bribes in all RTO offices of Goa.   

I travel on my bike almost every day for work and I always see many people driving their two/ four wheeler vehicles (including bus/truck drivers) in the most irresponsible manner. They simply have no road discipline and due to which I see most of them dangerously over-speeding, over-taking, talking on mobile whilst driving.  Unfortunately, I don’t see the cops from the traffic cell keeping an eye or pulling such people up on priority basis in spite of knowing that the actual culprits of most road accidents are such people but I see these cops only targeting two -wheeler riders for not wearing helmets almost everywhere, why?  

   Well, I personally feel that if the transport department really had good intentions of saving precious lives then instead of selectively unleashing cops against two-wheeler riders, it would have to unleash the same cops against the real culprits who are causing most road accidents in Goa. I think that the transport department should learn to catch the bull by its horns and not the tail for better results instead of bluffing the public by selectively conducting its own stupid drives against all the poor two-wheeler riders with the sole intention of helping its cops from making fast money officially through such open extortion in the name of helmets.
