CALANGUTE: In a major gambling raid on a hotel at Gaurawaddo, Calangute, a team of North Goa police officers arrested 42 persons from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi for playing card gambling using chips.

The team of police officials comprised of PI Nolasco Raposo, PI Vijaynath Kavlekar, PSI Dinesh Gadekar, PSI Viraj Naik and others. 

Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo informed that two rooms on the fifth floor of the hotel were used for the gambling activity. During the raid, the police team seized cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh, 5,739 chips each worth Rs 1,000, two card swipe machines and 57 mobile phones. 

The 42 persons including the organisers have been booked under Sections 3 & 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Gambling Act.  

PI Raposo informed that police will write to the Tourism Department and the local panchayat to take appropriate action against the hotel owner for letting the premises to be used for the gambling activity. 

PSI Navin Dessai is conducting further investigation under the supervision of PI Raposo. The raid was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Edwin Colaco and SP North Utkrisht Prasoon.
