PANJIM: The Goa State Committee of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and its other fraternal affiliated trade unions will organise a mega rally in Panjim on Wednesday, May 1.

Addressing a press conference, R D Mangueshkar, Vice President, AITUC, said, "All the working people irrespective of their trade union affiliations and political ideology, will assemble at Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) bus stand at 9.3 am and will march into the city of Panjim with colourful flags and banners. The rally will culminate into a public meeting at Azad Maidan by paying floral tributes to the martyrs."

"On this May Day, we affirm that capitalism has miserably failed the whole humanity on all the continents since it has put profit before the larger public interest of civil society, be it during peace, war or during pandemics," he said.

Mangueshkar said as the economic crisis is growing and deepening all over the world, the capitalist system of governance has faced repeated failures, become more ruthless, corrupt and undemocratic, suppressing all protests and dissent of the people in order to hide their utter incompetence.

He said the AITUC will continue to raise its voice against prohibiting the right to strike, invoking ESMA in private pharma companies, retrenchments, closures, lay-offs, job losses, unending price-rise and increasing unemployment.
