Calangute: The Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo stressed on the need for the administration to adopt stern laws to punish child abusers and rape convicts at an awareness programme titled  “Mission K2K” held at the Calangute panchayat on Tuesday.

He highlighted that there are several instances of child abuse that have been reported in rural India and there is a need to change laws to tackle such cases.

A group calling itself ‘Craze 4” is on a mission from Kashmir to Kanyakumari to spread awareness against child abuse and rape.

Lobo informed that there are so many videos of rape going viral in India.

“These abuses to small children go unnoticed because they have in their jurisdiction the panchayats who settle the disputes without police interference. I don’t know how long it will take for this country to come out of this. We are very proud of this young boy from Ponda who is going all the way from Goa to Kashmir to create awareness by distributing pamphlets,” Lobo said.

“We all need to be alert and very attentive in the villages especially if anything like this happens we need to report it to the police or NGOs,” he added.

Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins pointed out that there was a need to create awareness among parents and teachers.

“There is child abuse and rape taking place across various States of India. The laws have to be made strict,” Martins said.
